Best Valentine’s Day Gifts

Valentine’s Day used to feel like a holiday built around romantic reservations and expectations, but these days, I treat it as an excuse to prep for something I actually want: a vacation. As a frequent solo traveler, I’ve learned that the best gifts aren’t always flowers or chocolates—they’re the small upgrades that make travel smoother, more comfortable, or just a little more fun. Whether I’m heading out on a quick weekend getaway or planning a longer adventure, I’d rather use these Valentine’s Day sales for picking up travel essentials I know I’ll use long after February 14.

This year, instead of waiting for a gift, I’m treating myself to a handful of practical (and a few slightly indulgent) travel finds that make solo trips better. From elevated luggage and packing accessories that keep me organized, to budget-friendly tech accessories that take the stress out of long travel days, these are the gifts I’m giving myself before my next getaway—starting at just $9.

Best Overall Deals

Calpak Luka Duffel

Calpak

If I could only bring one bag on a short solo trip, it would be the Calpak Luka Duffel. It’s soft enough to squeeze into overhead bins or under an airplane seat, but still structured enough to keep everything I pack organized. I love that it has a separate shoe compartment and enough interior pockets that I’m not digging for chargers or lip balm mid-transit. The lightweight, puffy exterior also makes it comfortable to carry through airports or train stations when I inevitably overpack. And it comes in the cutest colors (I have mine in metallic silver, but I’m also eyeing the dragonfruit), and I always get compliments on it.

Quince Mongolian Cashmere Oversized Boyfriend Cardigan

Quince

This cozy Quince cardigan is basically my travel security blanket. It’s warm without being bulky, which means it works as the perfect layer to wear on a plane, on chilly mornings, while enjoying coffee, and even for dinner in a pinch. The long, oversized fit makes long travel days more comfortable, while the cashmere feels far more expensive than its price tag. Mine is black, but if I’m treating myself for Valentine’s Day, the oatmeal is next on my list.

Lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag 1L

lululemon

When I’m traveling alone, I want my essentials within reach at all times, and this belt bag has become my go-to. It fits my phone, passport, wallet, and lip balm without feeling bulky, and I can wear it across my shoulders for extra peace of mind in busy airports or cities. It’s lightweight, easy to wipe clean, and surprisingly roomy for its size. For less than $50, it punches way above its weight.

Dosey 7-day Pill Organizer

Amazon

I’ve been thinking about Dosey’s chic pill organizer since I saw it in an Instagram ad weeks ago. As someone who has to travel with daily medications, this compact pill organizer keeps vitamins and medicine neatly sorted for the week without taking up precious space in my toiletry bag. I love the minimalist design and slim silhouette that can be stuffed into the nooks and crannies of my personal item without spilling. Plus, the blush exterior and gold lining add a touch of glamour without overdoing it.

Thule Compression Packing Cube Set

REI

Thule packing cubes are my secret weapon for traveling with only a carry-on, and Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to treat myself to a new set. They help squeeze bulky sweaters and layers down, so I can fit more without my bag exploding when I zip it shut. I also love how easy they make it to stay organized on the road, plus the handles mean I can hang them up when I really need them out of the way in small hotel rooms.

Dakine Fall Line Ski Roller Bag

REI

If I didn’t already have the Dakine Fall Line Ski Roller Bag, I would splurge on it as a Valentine’s Day gift over and over again. As a skier, having a reliable ski bag makes traveling with gear far less stressful. This roller bag fits everything—skis, poles, base layers, outerwear, and accessories—all in one place. The amount of gear you can stuff in this thing is borderline unbelievable and makes packing for ski trips simple. Plus, the wheels make hauling everything through airports manageable. It’s an investment, but one that makes ski travel feel significantly easier.

Anker Nano Power Bank

Amazon

A dead phone is my worst nightmare when I’m navigating alone. This ultra-compact Anker power bank is small enough to live in my belt bag, but powerful enough to fully recharge my phone when outlets are nowhere to be found. Even in a pinch, this portable charger promises to juice my phone up to 25 percent in just 42 minutes flat while I’m on the go, so I don’t have to worry about searching for outlets and sitting in one spot. It’s lightweight and eliminates the low-battery anxiety that inevitably hits on long travel days.

Skullcandy Dime Evo Wireless Earbuds

Amazon

I love my over-ear headphones, but they take up a ton of space in my personal item. To save room on quick trips, I’ve started traveling with these Skullcandy Wireless Earbuds, which make a perfect small V-day gift that makes a big impact. They come in a super convenient charging case that can be hooked onto keychains, bag handles, or even the belt loop of your jeans. This means they never get lost, save space, and charge whenever they’re tucked away. Plus, they’re comfortable (rare for earbuds), and the sound quality is great for a budget-friendly set.

Nalgene 32-ounce Water Bottle

Amazon

Over the years, I’ve learned that I don’t want to be weighed down when I’m traveling alone, which is why a Nalgene water bottle is always handy (and makes a great gift). It’s nearly indestructible, lightweight, and holds enough water to get me through long travel days without constantly refilling. When it’s empty, I can clip it onto a backpack or toss it into a tote without worrying about leaks. My favorite hack, though, is if I’m in a chilly hotel room and can’t sleep, I can fill it with hot water and sleep with it against my belly for instant warmth. For less than $20, a Nalgene is the gift that keeps on giving.

Apple AirTag 4-pack

Amazon

As a solo traveler, anything that gives me extra peace of mind is worth it. This Valentine’s Day, I’ll be treating myself to a pack of second-generation AirTags. Just pop these into checked bags and the real-time tracking will help you feel reassured during tight connections or busy travel days. The upgraded devices offer improved Bluetooth tracking, a louder alarm, and longer battery life, so you’re extra protected for longer. At $25 each, it’s a small investment that melts away unnecessary stress on already stressful days.

Nest Easy Breather Pillow Junior

Amazon

Road trips are fun until you realize how hard it is to sleep anywhere that isn’t your own bed, which is why I started bringing a small pillow from home. This memory foam pillow strikes the perfect balance between supportive and packable, and the adjustable fill means I can tweak it, depending on whether I’m sleeping in a hotel, tent, or the backseat during a long drive. It takes up less space than a standard pillow, but it makes a huge difference in how rested I feel the next morning. On multi-stop road trips, it’s one of those small comforts that makes every overnight feel easier.

Mrsdry Travel Bottles

Amazon

I’m fully converted to refillable travel bottles, and this editor-tested set from Amazon is top of my wish list. The silicone bottles are easy to squeeze and refill, and they save space compared to bringing full-size products. Plus, they don’t spill—key for someone who’s had liquids explode all over her toiletries too many times. For short solo trips, it means I can pack lighter without sacrificing my self-care routine.
