Jan. 29 marks the first day of the new lunar calendar, and 2025 is set to be the Year of the Snake. And over at Disneyland Resort in Southern California, Mickey and Minnie Mouse are already celebrating in style. In keeping with the Lunar New Year tradition of swapping old clothes for new ones, the couple recently debuted Korean hanbok outfits which they’ll be wearing for the month-long Lunar New Year at Disney California Adventure Park festivities taking place through Feb. 16.
Lunar New Year is one of Asia’s biggest holidays and is often celebrated by giving (and receiving) red envelopes, fireworks, and feasting with friends and family. But no one rings in the Lunar New Year quite like Disney — the 2025 celebrations will highlight Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese traditions and feature several beloved Disney friends, in addition to Mickey and Minnie.
There will be appearances by characters from films like Mulan and Turning Red, including Meilin, Ming Lee, Mushu, and Mulan herself. They will all be dressed in festive outfits and ready to pose for photos under a pavilion decorated with peach blossoms, bamboo, golden flowers, and banners adorned with holiday wishes.
And it wouldn’t be a trip to Disneyland without eating well. Disney is rolling out new menus to celebrate the holiday, and there are six pop-ups scattered across Disneyland serving Lunar New Year-inspired dishes. Visitors can feast on things like garlic noodles at Paradise Gardens Park, strawberry milk tea macaron at Bamboo Blessings, and shrimp lo mein at Longevity Noodle Co. There will even be some fun cocktails on offer for adults like the Year of The Snake margarita, which can be found at Lucky 8 Lantern.
There are a few special events to look forward to too, including the popular Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession and the (also Mulan-themed) Hurry Home water display that will take place before the nightly World of Color. But even if parkgoers can’t make it to a show, they can soak up Lunar New Year vibes with the fun decor that will be festooned around Disneyland.
And before you leave the park, be sure to visit the Lunar New Year Wishing Wall, where you can write down your wishes for the new year under a string of red ornamental lanterns.
