Travel isn’t always associated with rest. Early wakeup calls, red-eye flights, and jet lag tend to disrupt our slumber. But, according to recent data pulled by Kayak, some destinations are better than others for getting a good night’s sleep.
The top 10 destinations were all in either Europe or Canada: Split, Croatia came in at No. 1 and Canmore, Alberta placed second. But the first U.S. appearance (No. 17) is a small town in Washington known for its European-inspired architecture and access to the great outdoors: Leavenworth.
Methodology
The travel search engine pinpointed the most searched city destinations around the world using queries made on Kayak from Jan. 1, 2024, to Jan. 12, 2025, for the travel period between Jan. 7, 2024, and June 30, 2025. From there, destinations were shortlisted based on their proximity to mountains, lakes, rivers, beaches, hot springs, and national parks. After removing cities with a population above 1.5 million, Kayak analyzed each one for several factors associated with rest—noise pollution, air quality, perception of safety, governance and political stability, share of accommodations with spa amenities, and accommodation prices—and gave each of them a final score out of 100.
Leavenworth is a Bavarian-themed destination of around 2,400 full-time residents. You may have heard of its Oktoberfest celebrations or its charming holiday light displays, but it’s also a year-round mountain destination that’s perfect for a cozy, sleep-filled weekend.
For the best night’s sleep of your life, spend some time breathing in the crisp mountain air (maybe hike to one of the nearby alpine lakes) and book a stay at PostHotel Leavenworth. The wellness resort has saunas and cold plunge pools—rotating between the different temperatures is known to help with sleep—and a spa, where you can book a massage designed for deep relaxation.
